in response to cashay... Now I understand "loving" ones car to a degree .. I "love" my car and have named every car I have owned (I especially "love" my car for the independence/freedom it provides me, which is huge after we have that taken away or limited to some degree), .. but I can't quite shake the feeling that there's a bit too much placed on these cars as if they were human beings or live creatures of some nature. I can't pin point why this bothers me so .. and I am trying to understand why, .. and the one thing that comes to mind is that this attachment to vehicles has to do with a fear, pain and anger surrounding the attachment to human beings. Feeling abandoned, betrayed, abused, and unloved can push a person into detaching from human relationships (where there's interaction, communication, possibility of lost trust, pain and betrayal and so much more - a mixed bag of good and bad). And for some, the greater majority of life experience with intimate relationships is all/mostly negative, so we stop opening our hearts to others. Realizing that everyone is flawed .. that they can so easily, and without warning, hurt us so deeply that we pull away and never want to come back to any relationship. We grieve for the loss of persons in our lives .. and sometimes for material things, but usually these material things, and our subsequent reactions, are actually connected to other emotions and past traumas not truly involving that loss of something material in nature. We all want and seek love; unconditional love .. and acceptance, understanding, someone who says/believes we are valuable, worthy and appreciated, someone who loves us for our flaws and treats us with respect, .. and these feelings are what make us feel joy, enthusiasm, passion for life, ... Yes, money and material items relieve stress to a degree, as it's much easier to function, survive and live when we are not in constant state of anxiety and worry around how to pay for things, and certainly we indulge in some lavish things for pleasure, as it triggers a chemical reaction in our brains just as "love" does ... So in putting so much importance on cars or other material items, is that ultimately seeking this "high" which feels like "happiness" because it is not found else where within ones life?
