in response to whoknew...   Yes I was trying to put the link down and this new way of doing things wasn't work so I had to close the window and open another..And they do have good prices and she had great other information for things for free char6 did and she was the one who mentioned gohastings.. cool site.

Yes it is that time of the year and people will want gifts. I like gifts too. But other things are more important keep one's head above water. I wouldn't say it was an argument about the holidays but to use common sense
Have a great holiday whoknew and everyone else..
Help each other if you can for it is in the giving we receive.

It will happen time and time again. We see it every year.  I like gifts too, I especially like giving them ,but unfortunately, I have bills that need to be paid first. Our society has taught people "instant gratification" is the way to live.

Remember the story about the ant and the grasshopper? - Unfortunately, I don't think too many people do. This is our winter and for those who are not prepared to deal with it, they will be left out in the cold.

in response to whoknew...   Yes, you are so right. Its the same argument.
I understand about wanting to give gifts.
I like anyone else like gifts.
If a person can well afford gifts after the neccessities are paid, then by all means go for it! Get those gifts.
But, some people have made some unwise decisions around Christmas. One lady took her rent monies & bought kids toys for Christmas. Then the next month she could not pay her rent & was being evicted. Imagine being evicted in January, the coldest month. And,all because she took the rent monies and bought toys.
Can we say priorities not in the right place!!!
I hope this does not happen to anyone else.

Ah you know its Christmas time again when we start this argument. wink

We know the basics and the reason for christmas are more important, but apparently that hasn't phased the consumer mind of the american citizen in general. I think the best we can do this year, is try to get through it as quickly as possible while trying to relay the same message as we have in the past.

Startshine, I believe the link you were referring to was  go hastings and surprisingly enough, there were some really good prices there.

Hopefully, one day, we can all celebrate as one people for one reason - humanity.

Thank you and it isn't anything new but I wanted to share with you this site a lady her posted and let me clear my mouse.

http://char6.aidpage.com/

And she had a site where you could by things used really cheap for the holidays. The site isn't clickable but you need to read her page as it was great so do check it out and she was clever. Do read it. There are workshops that different do it stores offer so you have to read this char6 page

love you all

in response to Starshine...   I totally agree with this.
People are stressing about gifts for Christmas.
If its that person's birthday, give them a gift. If its not their birthday, then give them a gift ON THEIR BIRTHDAY.
Afterall, whose birthday is being celebrated anyway.
I would also be more concerned about keeping a roof over the kids head.

in response to Mimzy...   Reply to Mimzy:---Hello again Mimzy, what a pleasant surprise to see a message from you. I would be very honored to donate some of my recipies to your cooking site. The only trouble is most of the really good ones are located in my head at the present moment so I will put aside an afternoon next week and get some written down and I have some wonderful one dish meals and desserts from my mothers very old Betty Crocker cookbook that she modified and their very easy to prepare and my mom was a stickler for recipies that used just ordinary every day ingredients so they are not only easy to prepare their very cost effective. Thankyou so much for asking and I will get them to you as soon as I can get them all written down. Sincerely sheshe030

Would love to share any of your favorite recipes on the site if you'd like to share. I'm planning on putting in my Turkey recipe - even though the boys don't want me to! They say that it's too good to give it away...lol
I think that is the best reason to share it! lol

Will keep you posted as to when the site is open.
Have a great weekend!

in response to char6...   Hi char6
You are welcome and thank you for the compliment. it is sad to see so many people hurting. My parents didn't have the Christmas that people have today. It was the little things they got and my dad had no gifts growing up. then Sears Catalog was called the wish book even when I was growing up. Food was the big deal at the holidays and it took a while to have a big dinner as it cost. I can remember exactly how much money my mom and dad had to work long ago ,each month 150 bucks 66 plus went to payment on the house and the rest dished out and dad got a ride into work. There were no extras after the grocery store and no fancy clothes. Mom started working since when we were old enough and the neighbor next door watch us when we got home from school. Mom grew her own vegetables like her mom. And we had rabbits and ducks for pets that later I found out we ( my dad had to make a trip out of town as he didn't want to eat Bobbie and Tippi) that the ducks Uncle sent us were our pets and I had a fit when I found that out..There was not big Christmas when I was growing up. It was a big deal to get what relatives we had together or later go see them and parents drove and we slept in the car no money for hotel. As for the holidays I would rather see people not stress over what to give the children and your site you gave was great but be happy with less and keep it simple till the times are be better. Thank you for your help here as you give good advice too and I enjoyed reading your input always...
take care

Remember Christmas is about giving from the heart!!! not material, today most parents feel they have to keep up or they will disappoint the children, trust me children know when things are not right, if u feel that this christmas is not going to be the christmases of past, ITS OK!!! have a talk with ur children if their old enough to understand, the most important thing is being together as a family, and having food on the table!!! this is most important, being a unit as a family and helping each other!!! ive sent some links to help families that are trully needy!!! hope this can help!!!
